In Nativitate Domini
Early baroque music for Christmas
The festive Christmas season is of great importance in the Catholic and Protestant church music tradition. Throughout all eras composers have set Advent and Christmas texts to music and created ceremonious pieces, conveying the contemplative and joyous atmosphere of the birth of Jesus. Our Christmas programme presents instrumental and vocal compositions from the C17th with variable instrumentation, also extended to include a soprano:
J.H. Schmelzer, G. Picchi, G. Carissimi, S. Capricornus, G. B. Buonamente, S. Scheidt, P. F Bödekker
